  • Final Thoughts on the Semester

    Due 12/4/15:

This semester has definitely been a butt-kicker. I have never felt so low about myself in college as I have this Fall. Between my fears about my future, my worsening anxiety, failing immune system, more all-nighters these past 3.5 months than my whole college career, trying to stay involved in my other priorities, and more I feel like I have been drowning. This being my 5th year in college has also brought out a bit of “senioritis” as well. I’ve stopped caring as much about my work, my friends, and myself. I just want to sleep.

Though this semester has been the worst of my life, I have learned a lot. I have learned just how far I can be pushed before I ultimately break. I have learned that I am mentally and physically strong from what I have gone through. I have learned that I am a good designer, even if my work isn’t everyone’s taste.

Honestly, this class itself has been a good opportunity, and I am happy with my brand I built for myself and the person I have become.

    Bring on graduation May 2016!

  • Interview Recap 2

    Due 12/4/15:

Today Wednesday I had a mock interview with Swoon, the Studio in Dallas, Texas. I loved their website when I first looked at it, and when I walked into their office I completely fell in love with the atmosphere. It honestly felt like a place I would want to work when I graduated.

Samantha Sano interviewed me and she was so enthusiastic about life and design and I am so happy to have had a chance to talk to her. She looked through my book rather quickly and didn’t make me talk about my work much (which was a plus). She mainly wanted to know what I was passionate about. It was such an awesome experience and I got extremely helpful feedback for where I want my portfolio to go and how I want to be known as a designer.

I am absolutely over heels in love with Swoon, and I will definitely be applying there after I graduate next May.

  • Due 11/24/15:

Design Hero (Someone you don’t know)-

Tomoko Suzuki is an illustrator from Tokyo, Japan. All of her illustrations are very fresh, fun, and playful. The quirkiness of her style first attracted me to her work. She has created illustrations for children’s books, which I think is awesome. I used to try to illustrate children’s books (one that I wrote about a girl named Laura and her sick unicorn… lol) but I was only like 8 years old, so it didn’t turn out as well as her book illustrations. I also enjoy that she is not afraid of color and patterns.
